Change required: Today in the news are the stories of injured veterans suffering from Government cutbacks. There is surprise that pensions changed to lump sum payments on a "one time bases." This occurred to injured worker of Alberta in 1995.
Difference is the Veterans are dealing with the Federal Conservative Government and the Injured Workers of Alberta are dealing with the Provincial Conservative Government The Conservative Government federally and provincially lack the empathy required to deal with the issues affecting the public. It is absolutely the Government that has the right to change the rules. Isn't it the job of politicians to address issues of the citizens? Alberta Government History: Alberta's first premier, Alexander C. Rutherford, was elected in 1905 and his Liberals took 22 of 25 seats. In 1979, the Progressive Conservatives won 74 out of 79 seats. After the 2012 provincial election, the Progressive Conservatives held 61 out of 87 seats. Governing parties: The Liberal party formed the first government in Alberta from 1905-1921. The United Farmers of Alberta party overcame the Liberals in 1921 and stayed in power until 1935. The Social Credit Party formed the next provincial government for 35 years from 1935-1971. The Progressive Conservative party has been in government from 1971 to present. http://alberta.ca/how-government-works.cfm If you look at the history of Alberta you may find it interesting that the Liberals have not been given a chance to lead the province of Alberta since 1921 and the NDP have never been given the opportunity. Can they make change the Conservative have not?. Absolutely if given the opportunity and support. I am pretty sure there are more injured workers than politicians in Alberta. So be liberated it does not matter if your blue or white collar workers. We are all workers or family and friends of someone done wrong in the WCB system. Premiers; Lougheed, Getty, Klein, Stelmach, Redford, Hancock, Prentice. These are all Conservatives leaders. History repeats in Alberta with no real real change for injured workers legislation that is positive.. The WCB system is 100 years old based on the Meredith principles and the only political interest I have seen to try to make changes are the Liberals and the NDP. The legislation remains pretty consistent yet the interpretation of the legislation and policies have changed. of the WCB have changed with minimal changes for the good of workers.
