Advocacy for Injured Workers

QUESTIONS

AS AN INJURED WORKER PROTECT YOURSELF AND YOUR PRIVACY

5 Key Things to Consider When Seeking an Advocate

1. Trust
2. Experience
3. Track record
4. Knowledge
5. Are they working for you?

Finding an Advocate:

You will always be able to find "free chat line"
(Copycat websites)
"Talk for free."  (Talk is cheap).
"Team" to help you.
If they have a "team" put faces on the players.

Have them put an action plan together for you before you hire them.
Will they follow up the call in an email with recommendations?

Ensure you ask an advocate questions and make sure you know that they are independent from the WCB and Appeals Commission

If an advocate is paid by the government sponsored by WCB are they truly independent?

If the WCB, Appeals Commission and Alberta Government is giving free advertising for elite advocacy services
Do you trust them?

Union Representatives
Did you know WCB offers free seminars and training to them  to have the same "think tank" approach to claims management?

Do you DOUBT the free or paid Advocacy Services available to you (union etc.)?

Can you appeal a decision over a year?

Yes. The request for extension is required in writing and reviewed by WCB

Can you request your file to be reviewed regardless of                           how old the claim is?
Yes. We have had much success with claims that are up to 30 years old and need reopen consideration and review. You are not caught in the one year appeal statutory for review of decisions that were wrong or missed.
Can you receive C.P.P disability and WCB benefits
Picture
Yes.. WCB can not deduct any entitlement benefits from you whether you receive C.P.P. disability benefits or not.
Can you apply for disability benefits at work when you are on WCB?
Usually NOT but you must advise your carrier immediately when you are injured and start a claim that may pay you if WCB cuts you off. It is recommended that you contact the carrier immediately following an accident.
